Dream Journal

I was visiting L – or maybe I was moving because I had a ton of stuff with me, including Georgie. The bed in the room was quite big relative to the size of the room, and Georgie was stuck on the far side of the bed, surrounded by piles of stuff. Then, in dream logic fashion, I wasn’t at L’s yet, I was supposed to meet her in another town, at an outdoor market. And to get there, I had to use this contraption that consisted of two belts, that looked like the mic pack belts made of neoprene and would teleport me to the location.

So I’m down in the back yard and one of the friends from the show I’m currently in was also there, just hanging out along with some other people I don’t remember. Anyway, I’m trying to figure out how this thing works, and it wasn’t easy and required me to know where exactly I was going, and where that was in relation to where I was at the moment, and I had to make sure I was facing in the right direction. I finally figured it out and activated the contraption and landed in the outdoor market just where I was supposed to. I was feeling really pleased with myself and reached into my pocket to call L to let her know I’d arrived, but all I had in my pockets was the early 2000’s flip phone I’ve been using as a prop in the show I’m currently in and I realised I’d jumped the gun on the teleporting and had left all my stuff behind.

So then I have to figure out how to reorient myself in my new location so I can teleport back to my previous location and get my things. And then I’m back in the bedroom, and oh shit! I forgot about Georgie, who’s been trapped on the far side of the bed this whole time! (even in my dream my brain was going, this isn’t right, Georgie loves sleeping under the bed; there’s no way she’d be trapped like that). So now I’m worrying about whether I’ll be able to fast travel with the dogs, and wondering if I can sling Artie (no, little man had not been in the dream before this lol, sorry buddy) over my shoulder in a carrier bag and then hold on to Georgie. No idea how I was going to use the contraption if my arms were full of dog, but dream brain wasn’t worried about that.

Then I was with a bunch of people who were discussing where to go to dinner and one of them mentioned a restaurant in the town where I was supposed to meet L and was like, yeah, it’s about a fifteen minute drive to get there and I was like, wait, why the heck was I using this teleporting contraption to get there if it’s only fifteen minutes away?!? Oh, right, yeah, British people have weird ideas about what constitues a long drive, I forgot.

I think I’m counting this one as a theatre stress dream, what with the theatre friend, mic pack belt contraption and pockets empty except for props bit, but wow it went in interesting directions beyond that.

I was travelling with Max Miller… it involved going down a river in, I think a sort of raft? I don’t remember what exactly we were supposed to be looking at, but we kept running into crocodiles. One of them came up onto the raft, and I had to climb the tree to get out of the way and then had to apologise to Max Miller for screaming at the crocodile. At the end of the trip I mentioned I hadn’t known before that crocodiles came in so many different colours (they had been brightly coloured like poison dart frogs).

After that we ended up in a… shop? museum? library? Could really have been any of the above. There was something about bathrooms that I only have the vaguest memory of – I feel like we ended up in the staff area for some reason. We were getting ready to leave, and had to find my mother. She texted us that she was in the large hall (it had a specific name, which I’ve forgotten), which I assumed was going to be a room full of tables, but turned out to be an auditorium. While we were walking around I suddenly remembered that the very fancy jacket I was wearing didn’t actually belong to me, and I was going to have to remember to return it before leaving. Then I noticed that the pin I was wearing had lost its backing and while I was looking around for it, I saw my friend Lauren and her kids and sister (except her sister didn’t look like her irl sister… but I have the sense that she did look like someone else I know irl) and went along to say hi and surprise them that we both happened to be in this out of town place at the same time.

I was with two other people – friends? school mates? not sure. One of them was Taliesin Jaffe, only in the dream his name was James. I can’t remember what we’d been doing, but we were in a sort of barn or warehouse. Then James went off in a huff with his camera to look for bobcats.

After a short time we started hearing screaming, and James comes tearing back. We follow after him and he leads us away from the bobcat area, but then curves back around towards it. When we arrive, he’s annoyed, not that he ended up doubling back, but that he took such a circuitous route to get there.

We’re at a tennis court, I think, and there’s a small shed next to us that we’re hiding behind, and as we peek around it, we see a dead deer on the court. And then a large animal appears and starts dragging the deer and I’m like, that’s not a bobcat. Is that a coyote? And we’re all like, oh shit, no, that’s a wolf!

At that moment the wolf and its buddies, which we hadn’t noticed before, saw us and came over. The leader was huge and black and we were like, oh man, we’ve got to appease them. Give them food!

James disappeared into the little shed and came out with this enormous, beautiful sandwich made with black bread, avocados, lettuce and goodness knows what else, which he sadly dropped into the net bag the wolf was holding out to us.

I had some snacks in my hand, oreos, jaffa cakes and something else I don’t remember. I tossed them everything except the jaffa cakes. There were three left, so I gave one to each of my friends and kept one for myself, telling them to eat it because we could use the sugar after our shock (all this time the wolves are still crowding around us).

James looked at it dubiously wanting to know what was in it. I told him it was cake, marmalade and a bit of chocolate and he shrugged and started to eat it while informing me very sadly that black rye (what his sandwich was apparently made of) was his very favourite bread.

I was going to be cooking for a group and someone was explaining that the milanesas, in order to be truly authentic, had to have multiple layers of egg and bread crumb, and I just… I can’t with this dream. I woke up bewildered and confuddled and slightly revolted.
