Dream Journal

I was visiting L – or maybe I was moving because I had a ton of stuff with me, including Georgie. The bed in the room was quite big relative to the size of the room, and Georgie was stuck on the far side of the bed, surrounded by piles of stuff. Then, in dream logic fashion, I wasn’t at L’s yet, I was supposed to meet her in another town, at an outdoor market. And to get there, I had to use this contraption that consisted of two belts, that looked like the mic pack belts made of neoprene and would teleport me to the location.

So I’m down in the back yard and one of the friends from the show I’m currently in was also there, just hanging out along with some other people I don’t remember. Anyway, I’m trying to figure out how this thing works, and it wasn’t easy and required me to know where exactly I was going, and where that was in relation to where I was at the moment, and I had to make sure I was facing in the right direction. I finally figured it out and activated the contraption and landed in the outdoor market just where I was supposed to. I was feeling really pleased with myself and reached into my pocket to call L to let her know I’d arrived, but all I had in my pockets was the early 2000’s flip phone I’ve been using as a prop in the show I’m currently in and I realised I’d jumped the gun on the teleporting and had left all my stuff behind.

So then I have to figure out how to reorient myself in my new location so I can teleport back to my previous location and get my things. And then I’m back in the bedroom, and oh shit! I forgot about Georgie, who’s been trapped on the far side of the bed this whole time! (even in my dream my brain was going, this isn’t right, Georgie loves sleeping under the bed; there’s no way she’d be trapped like that). So now I’m worrying about whether I’ll be able to fast travel with the dogs, and wondering if I can sling Artie (no, little man had not been in the dream before this lol, sorry buddy) over my shoulder in a carrier bag and then hold on to Georgie. No idea how I was going to use the contraption if my arms were full of dog, but dream brain wasn’t worried about that.

Then I was with a bunch of people who were discussing where to go to dinner and one of them mentioned a restaurant in the town where I was supposed to meet L and was like, yeah, it’s about a fifteen minute drive to get there and I was like, wait, why the heck was I using this teleporting contraption to get there if it’s only fifteen minutes away?!? Oh, right, yeah, British people have weird ideas about what constitues a long drive, I forgot.

I think I’m counting this one as a theatre stress dream, what with the theatre friend, mic pack belt contraption and pockets empty except for props bit, but wow it went in interesting directions beyond that.

Off leash

There’s this strip of undeveloped land a few blocks from my house. The road it’s next to was built a few years ago to feed into the new elementary school down at the end of the road, so there’s only traffic on it during school pickup and drop-off hours. On one side it’s all fencing for the backs of the houses on the next street over, and on the street side there’s a drainage ditch which doesn’t get mowed when the rest of the strip does, so it’s all tall reeds other such plants.

I’ve been using it as an off-leash run for the dogs whenever it’s freshly mowed for a few years, but I hadn’t yet let Artagan run there off-leash. At first because I didn’t trust his recall yet, and more recently because the fencing the first fifty meters or so,  which is just a divider before the houses start and has a much busier street on the other side, had been falling down, and I didn’t want to chance either of the dogs heading that way.

But today I saw that that whole strip of fencing has been replaced, so he got his first chance to run off leash and he did such a good job! We practiced some recalls and he jogged right up to me and let me grab him for some congratulatory scritches despite all the intriguing sniffs he’d been sniffing.

Of course now he needs a thorough brushing because he picked up all manner of burrs and seeds.
