Vermont 2026 – Day 5

After another breakfast of bagels, T, C and I headed out for a nature walk. J decided to stay home again. T was under the impression that the thing she’d been most excited about doing during the trip was picking apples, and since we did that on the first day, she was perfectly happy to just spend some time lounging and resting.

I got some fun pictures during our walk, so photo dump below the cut.

Vermont 2026 – Day 4

It started raining overnight, and rained most of the day. The house didn’t have any sort of attic space. The ceiling and the roof were one and the same, so the pitter patter of rain was very present. It reminded me of the rain hitting the corrugated fibreglass roof outside my bedroom window when I was a kid.

Breakfast that day was a full cooked breakfast consisting of apple pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and tots, along with some maple syrup.

Due to the rain we decided this day would be dedicated to shopping. There had been things each of us had seen on Church Street the first day that we wanted to go back to.

Vermont 2026 – Day 3

After a breakfast that included Wally’s maple cream cheese spread (very yummy on a french toast bagel), three of us returned to the museum. J’s new shoes had proved to be uncomfortable and left her with sore feet, legs and back, so she chose to stay behind and enjoy the view at the house.

I’ve already mentioned most of what we saw there in the last post, so I’ll just add a couple more photos of some interesting bits.

Vermont 2026 – Day 2

Day 2 began sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, with a nice hot cup of coffee, watching the sun rise through the window.

Vermont 2026 – Day 1

Flight left at 7AM, so I showered the night before and got up around 2:30 AM to make some sandwiches with a bit of ham I wanted to use up before T, C, and J came to pick me up.

We got into Burlington too early to head directly to the airbnb, so we found a coffee shop to get a drink and a snack and hang out in for a while. The one we ended up in is called Muddy Waters, and I really liked it. The inside is decorated with what look like the exterior porches of old shacks; lots of gnarled wood and wooden shingles popping out of the walls here and there.

Shelburne Museum

We went to a nearby museum. General admission is for a two day ticket and the place is pretty big so we split our visit up over two days.

The first picture was from the textiles building. It’s a memorial needlepoint. The whole thing is only about a foot high, so the smallest of those letters are about a millimetre tall!

The other picture is a yarn swift made of scrimshaw.

Also on the grounds was a working, 107 year-old carousel, which we got to ride on.

There was also a house the founder’s children built to memorialise her which contains a dozen or more Monets, Degas and Manets.

Apples

We went apple-picking yesterday and came back with 45 apples*. There are four of us and we’re only here till Thursday. ????

*Well, 43 apples and two Asian pears.
