Aerenden: The Child Returns by Kristen Taber

My latest audiobook has been released. Aerenden: The Child Returns by Kristen Taber. This is the first book in the Aerenden series.

Seventeen-year-old Meaghan has no idea her perfect life has been a lie – until she witnesses her parents’ brutal murders at the hands of red-eyed creatures.

After nearly sharing their fate, she escapes with her best friend, Nick, who tells her the creatures are called Mardroch. They come from another world, and so does she. Now that the Mardroch have found her, she must return to her homeland of Aerenden or face death.

Left with little choice, she follows Nick into a strange world both similar to Earth and drastically different. Vines have the ability to attack. Monkeys freeze their victims with a glare. Men create bombs from thin air. Even Meaghan’s newly discovered empath power turns into a danger she cannot control. However, control becomes the least of her worries once the Mardroch begin targeting her. When Nick confesses he knows the reason they want her, she learns the truth behind the kingdom’s fifteen-year civil war – a long-buried secret that could cost Meaghan her life.

I’ll have to check it out. My 11-year-old is now reading “The Scarlet Pimpernel” after hearing Chapter 1 of your Librivox recording. I’m a francophone (and francophile), and I was impressed with your ability to swap pronunciations depending on the speaker in the text. You do great work.

    Hi Karen

I was just looking for an opportunity to thank you for your amazing reading of Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea (that’s how far i have got, i think you have done the later books too). Sorry i think you probably recorded it ages ago and have moved on but i just discovered them and had to thank you. I can’t express how much i have enjoyed your reading. The subtlety of the different voices and the expressiveness with which you read the text just adds a whole level of enjoyment to the books. My 9 year old son is now listening to them with me and he loves them just as much.

Thank you thank you from Vicky in Melbourne, Australia!

    Hi Karen,

Like Vicky above, I also was looking for an opportunity to thank you. My family (of four girls) and I are from Adelaide, Australia, and have loved listening to your lovely clear crisp voice with Anne of Green Gables. We are so very much appreciative of your hours of effort to do this!

    Looking forward to reading more!
